The coupling looks mechanical only, no brake/control pipes appear to span the gap.

I can’t help but feel that a little bit more work on the front end design would have made a more attractive ‘face’ the bottom of the windscreen and lights just don’t flow around the shield. The Allegra has a much more busy front with all the pipes but somehow looks more cohesive while the Capricorn shield just looks stuck on with no thought to size vs the other elements. The Capricorn looks average family car compared to the Allegra’s ‘Hot hatch’ styling and I just feel it’s a bit of a cop out and will date faster because of it.

Agreed, it's all a bit too much generic Stadler with an afterthought cantonal shield attached.
Regarding the coupling adapter; I'm assuming the Capricorns are fitted with a +GF+ type coupler where all the electrical/braking services are connected within the device?
If that's the case, I guess the orange adapter is for emergency and depot use only. The engineering on it looks a tad 'light' for normal road use.

I finally figured out this week what it is that makes the Capricorn less interesting than the Allegra. Seeing them side by side the sweeps of the Allegra front concentrate on the ‘big teeth’ of the pipes and sockets while the Capricorn has nothing. The coupling dealing with it all leaves it very clean with the two light eyes, shield nose and then the flat mouth of that fairing above the coupler.
It’s a face thing, Allegra is the meaner slightly ‘dangerous’ look of a Star Wars Stormtrooper while Capricorn is the emotionless box face robot.
;) At least it’s not ugly like the clumsy UK class 70 Lego block ‘face’ but it could do with a swoosh maybe on the lower dark red colour to add a bit of character in paint.
