Here's some news on the new Capricorn... looks like a blunter version of the Allegra.

Well it’s as plain as the CAD suggested! At least the Allegra has a bit of attitude to its design!

Interesting that it’s an auto coupling too so does, or how does, that work with extra coaches and freight?

what is the purpose of this unit? I thought they wanted max versatility out of everything.

They call them "Flügeltriebzüge", https://www.rhb.ch/de/unternehmen/projekte-dossiers/fluegeltriebzuege. The intent is to run two units as one train to a certain spot e.g. Landquart to Klosters, at Klosters the units split, one continues on through the Vereina tunnel to St. Moritz, the other carries on to Davos. On the return trip they get reunited in Klosters and run as one train back to Landquart.

What puzzles me: I havent checked the respective distances but i would think that the distance between Klosters and St.Moritz is longer than that to Davos, which I would assume (yeah, yeah I know) would mean a longer layover for the Davos section — unless they run that through to Filisur??? You never know, but the official designation for Wiesen is "Davos Wiesen"; Wiesen being part of the regional municipality of Davos.

On an ordinary working a Landquart to Davos service, currently splits at Davos and the push-pull set lays over for a short period of time before working through to Filisur. on the return working it has the trailing coaches added on the back at Davos Platz.
If this route steps up to half hourly as well, then there would be no layover at Davos.
Problem I see with the new plan is that a four car set from Landquart that connects with the service from Zurich would be very well patronised, 8 cars as far as Klosters might work, as long as the passenger loadings from Klosters to Davos don't exceed that capacity of a single 4 car.

playing around wtth the 2018 timetable as a basis :
set 1 :............................set 2 :
Landquart dep ..09:20
Klosters arr ......09:59
Klosters dep......10:01.................................10:03
Davos Platz arr..10:31......St Moritz arr...........11:10
Davos Platz dep.10:32......St Moritz dep.........11:47
Filisur arr..........10:56
Filisur dep.........11:04
Davos Platz arr..11:29
Davos Platz dep.11:31
Klosters arr.......11:59.......Klosters arr...........12:56
Klosters dep......12:01.......Klosters dep.........13:01
Landquart arr....12:43.......Landquart arr........13:43

That would tie in nicely with a service 1 hour earlier from St Moritz.

:)) :))

I doubt it, there will be fewer and fewer engine powered trains, never mind old stuff from before the Ge 4/4" class. :( :(

I agree with HJ, am so glad that I have enjoyed so many Loco hauled years since my first visit in 2002, but the writing is now on the wall.

Much has changed on the RhB since then, my last visit my 28th was in 2016, my favourite was my RhB Historic Trip when they turned out all the goodies, starting in Andermatt and finishing in Tirano.

We covered almost all lines sometimes double headed, with steam, old electrics, old railcars and on our trip down to St Moritz we had all the RhB dining cars for our meal, there were 104 of us!

With a ride on the first Test Run of an Allegra, me and a few RhB staff from Reichnaeu-Tammins to Filisur, a private visit to Landquart Works just me and an official from the RhB I met on my Historic Trip, I think I have been very lucky.

I have enjoyed every trip, Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter but think my visits are now over.

Happy days

Richard J

On a lighter note

Image

He has yet to be unveiled; he's a stringy, PETG creature.
So far no magic method to get rid of all the strings, except with a very sharp knife and the micro torch. 8-| 8-| A bit tricky depending on the size of the figure.
But he will be unveiled!! /:)

Including the rather natty adapter for coupling to traditional RhB stock/loks:
