Record snows in Klosters and Zermatt this year.
http://www.elysiancollection.com/record ... -klosters/ nice little modeling scene....saw a picture of two guys standing chest deep in snow on the roof of a hotel, shoving the snow off....dangerous work. We've got nothing here in Toronto.
They said it was averaging 15cm per night last week.

Still relatively mild, just as well! The furnace went on the fritz and the new parts will be installed tomorrow.

The XC km count is past the 300 mark, really good conditions up on the mountain and no annoying snow clearing down in the valley. Now that's what I call B-) B-) B-)

The temp hit -13ºC this morning. Good thing our furnace is fixed. It would be very "crisp" with the North wind.

The ski area will be closed if and when the temp gets to -25ºC, yesterday at 14:00 it was at -22. :-o :-o

nasty attack of spring here, raining all day and both the heron and mole have returned, one to devastate the garden the other to ransack the pond.

Yeah, you gotta love wild life! :D :D
Our adventure with the raccoon family that found a nice cozy home in the roof overhang above the entrance was .... less interesting.

Went from -25C last week, to +11 on the weekend?! Today, I was almost at the resort to teach, when they called and cancelled due to the freezing rain and ice pellets pelting down from the sky....2 " of what feels like styrofoam underfoot.
Right around -2......winter for a few days, and now really bizarre weather....
Austria has had to evacuate resorts due to the extreme snow falls......very strange.

Haven't been up on the mountain since Saturday, way too cold! Beautiful sunshine, which is at least better than valley cloud.... as far as mood is concerned. 8-|

Two weeks on and the weather is still the pits. Had the BC Midgets championship on the weekend. Sunday they had to delay the start to 11:00 too cold and blustery.
When they asked my how I was doing (Tuesday at the dentists) I said "I have a severe case of cabin fever".
Getting the bill at the end of the visit didn't improve it, either! /:) /:)

The weather has turned BIG TIME 10 to 16º C. As soon as that happens I come down with a rotten cold. X( X(
There are two more weeks of XC skiing and I want to reach my goal.
In clear text that means getting up on the mountain when they're done with the grooming but before it gets mushy. Spring is always tricky, ski from the shade into the sun .... watch out.

BTW one crazy guy was skiing in shorts, but he's probably OK, never goes fast enough to get a snow rash. :ymdevil: :ymdevil:

Picture from yesterday, start of Spring. Yep it's a start.

Image

However the lesson I learned in rural Ontario: Don't get too excited, there will be another dump of snow. If not in March then in April. :-B :-B

Back in Ontario the Township employees used to take off the plows at the end of March. It seemed like a make-work project since they, almost without fail, had to mount them once more in April.

After taming my cold, it was a perfect skiing day.
The mountain got 11cms of fresh snow the past 48 hours. Freshly set tracks this morning, they stayed perfect for the first 12k i.e. before the "beginners" showed up. Them are those who ski too fast even on small downhills and then pop out of the track, if not on the first curve certainly on the second one. 8-} 8-}

PS forgot to mention: brilliant sunshine, temp around freezing point. Very good first thing in the morning, gets a bit sticky after 11 and shooting from shade into the sun ... ui ui ui!

we just had a little freak storm last night...4-5cm, but this morning it's +5 and the snow is dropping off the trees everywhere...kind of hazardous walking the dog, with cowflops of snow plopping down on us. Lucky if I can get one more day of skiing in this season. Hope so.
Yes Switzerland has gotten lots of snow, and the Swiss ski team, and skicross team have had a great season.

I'm getting really close to my target, despite falling on my butt in the stadium. At slow speed the boards just went ahead and I went back .... BIG TIME. That was Friday, today it still feels like a charley horse. Luckily I didn't hit my head.
Gave the people at the lodge a good ear full about sub-standard grooming. Today the skaters were grumbling about it being too icy. How icy? Doing classic in the track I can double pole at least 50% of the slightly rolling course. Goes like stink on the descents; that is up to 10:30 on sunny days. After that it slows down.
