Spotted by one of the guys on RMweb at the Stuttgart show and especially the vans look good.

I got the email last week (from Friedhelm) but didn't know if it's cleared for publication, yet!

Well heck - I think I'll wait for the Kato model of the GE 4/4 IIs - but those vans... and at that price!! Here comes the spending frenzy!

Anyone ever heard of this company? Wonder who is actually manufacturing the models? Could it be Kato? Seems odd that you would invest money in tooling when the big guy is doing the same thing.

The MDS Haik vans are now available from MDS and various eBay shops. Beware the Italian ones adding €25 postage though, I got three with only €10 post from Germany. I’ll add pics once they arrive.
The Celebration ge4/4’s are out too.

My MDS ge4/4 has arrived and it’s currently running in.

MDS on the left and Kato on the right.

The detail is just a bit finer than the Kato one with separate handrails and a slightly finer roof. The Kato one is superior in two ways, the pantograph is slightly thinner and better coloured and the windows are slightly less prismatic. Paint is very nicely done and the running is virtually identical in quality to the Kato.

So overall it’s very nicely done and runs well. The slightly finer detail means it is worth a bit more than the Kato one and the extra liveries are a bonus. Kato have the edge on price but to be honest the value for money is pretty much equal. I’ll happily mix both to get locos I’d like.

Very well done MDS! :)

Thanks to Gunnar Müller we got some very nice 1:22.5 scale items from BRAWA, next were the Pullman items from ESU and now his very own MDS Line. I wish him good luck and a very good response from the 1:150 fraternity.
Yes, that and the Bonsai layout is very, very tempting. :-? :-? OTOH I want to live a bit longer, going into 1:150 could endanger my life. #:-s #:-s ;)

An eBay blitz lead to enough funds to treat myself to all three anniversary liveries.
They all ran beautifully straight out of the box.

Also a couple of minor mods to fit magnetic couplers, Microtrains 2004-1

Very nice - it's just a bit of a shame they didn't spend a bit more effort on the pantographs which are way better on the Kato offering IMO

I think a darker grey will sort them out. The main issue is the light grey looks slightly plasticky as it’s a bit translucent.

Ulrich over on NGRM posted this -

“I just had a lengthy conversion with Herr Müller from MDS, in which we also talked about the upcoming new products for 2019.

There will be a variant of RhB sliding door goods vans in various advertising schemes coming, plus the "Feldschlösschen" van. There won´t be a new loco - yet, but the 100 Year Arosa version of the Ge 4/4 II. He had plans to also do the "Edelweiss"-loco, but put that on the backburner, as Kato will have that one. The fundraiser loco for Rhätia will also be released.

A new loco, however, is scheduled for 2020, but he wouldn´t yet disclose which one!”

So more van variants and reliveries but more models in the pipeline :)
Note also that Kato have apparently got the Edelweiss Ge4/4 in their programme.

MDS 2019
They’ve announced the Ge4/4 in the Rhatia kohle, LGB 50, GEX and both versions of the POWER livery.

Is there any other way to get MDS products other than eBay? I am going to be in Germany and Switzerland in a couple months, do any hobby shops carry them. Doesn’t look like MDS ships outside of Germany. Vans look nice for sure. Thx!

Just got my first two MDS vans (of all places, they were sitting in a model shop window in Hong Kong last week... :-o and cheaper than ebay!).

Question to the brain trust: can the rapido style couplers be replaced easily to match the Kato whatever-it-is tram type coupler?
(Is there a "drop in" solution?)

TIA!
Josh
