It snowed overnight.
We wrapped up the winterization yesterday, got what was planned inside including the Böhler switch machines.

Just noticed that our XC club now has an additional webcam.
First ski planned for Sunday.

Do you let the layout sit in the winter? Don't run anything?
Can you still operate a bit on your staging area in the garage?

Yes it's dormant during the winter, except when I open the cover and lower the bridge to have a longer drill track out in the open.
Otherwise too busy with projects and/or too tired from XC skiing. :ymdevil: :ymdevil: ;)
Tomorrow will be my first run this season.

To keep with the theme....

For those who would like to see the weather at the XC venue check out the dual Webcam https://www.sovereignlake.com/info/webcam/Remember it's Pacific Standard Time(UTC -8)!

Who are all these people? Various teams doing early training, the USA national team usually shows up for their Thanksgiving week. Our first competition is Dec 8th & 9th.

Have a fun winter HJ. Here's hoping for good health, and no crashes. ;-)
ps. We're getting our first real snow tonight here in TO....about 10cm expected....fairly wet. I imagine the big storms on the east coast are affecting this. I wonder if any ash from CA will drift over, or certainly affect the Rockies....

Thanks John!

My season started Tuesday, building distance and speed.
The tracks are a lot better than I expected, meaning next week I can switch from the "rock skis" to the good ones. Tuesday was a case of not enough kick but lots of glide since the snow was hard packed, yesterday with a few centimeters of fresh snow was a lot better.

All our snow in the city is gone...today is a Norway day (misty, gloomy, and dark before 5...and rain all day)
Our ski hill managed to make enough snow to get open for a day....need some cold to come back though.

So far 8 days of skiing under my belt. Bit by bit the additional trails are opening, since we had tremendous rains just before it started snowing there are a few waterholes that haven't been covered , yet.
The Alpine section at Silver Star opened on the weekend. Speaking of which, yesterday was absolutely nuts at Sovereign, lucky to find a parking spot. Wall to wall people in the lodge. Uff, I couldn't get out on the trails quick enough. #:-s #:-s

The Klicks are accumulating and the speed is slowly increasing, good workouts. :-?

Yesterday called for a "fitting" ski in perfect weather.

Image

Looking South

Image

Looking North

First time tackling the big one this season, 16.5 km; 368m ascent`; 365m descent — you figure that out, so far I haven't. The snow was good but not super fast which was OK, except ....
It was a fitting end to the year.

It sure was different up on the mountain yesterday. Thick fog around the lodge, but not bad farther North away from the south slope where the warm wind from the USA blows up the fog.
Printing some of the covers for the manual turnout throws in .... PETG

My best laugh yesterday ... SWMBO talked to her sister who was visiting her daughter and the two grand kids up in Peace River Country. Word has it that she's looking forward to a quiet house and less commotion when she gets to our place. #:-s #:-s
Yeah, that constant yacking can really get on one's nerves. =)) =)) Had a dose of that when my cousin was here this past Autumn. [-(

What a beautiful place to ski among those tall trees.
We are still waiting for some snow that sticks more than a day. On Friday it was 14C here?! in January. Hovering around 0-5 daytime and - 4 at night...I'm still waiting to start skiing....
Maybe winter will come back one of these days....

That other narrow gauge — the mountain received 23cm of fresh snow in the last 24 hours. Hurray ... hopefully that means the classic grooming will have improved tracks. I'll find out tomorrow, that is if it doesn't snow too hard and/or is too cold. Present wind chill is -18.7 with the wind at almost 20kmh.
Forget it, I'm too old for that! ;) :ymsmug:

But yesterday was perfect, 16.4 klicks outing at more or less the speed I plan to do next week at the 15k "recreational" loppet.

Very dense fog in the Valley, perfect sunshine up on the mountain.
On Saturdays one has to get there early — in my case 09:30 — in order to get a parking spot and to avoid all the kids who show up for 10:00 lessons.
The parking lots were jam packed, in some cases with "interesting" solutions to the parking problem. No, they didn't stack them, yet, but close to it. /:) /:)

I’m glad you’re getting some good skiing in out there!
Crazy weather here these days—finally some sunshine and 10C so I raked the lawn and cleaned up the layout after all the big wind and rain storms we’ve had lately.
—almost forgot—chased two big deer out of the yard too..a@#$s&!!! X(
