The Grimsel Tunnel is getting serious. There is an article about the proposed tunnel in the April issue of Today's Railways Europe.

That would take big money and would require a lot of changes to all kinds of equipment. There is a distinct difference between the BrĂ¼nig rollingstock and what runs on the MGB/RhB net.

Image They also have to be careful about the number of holes they drill through the mountains, the whole shebang could collapse one day. Image

Quite a project !

I have to wonder whether the existing 'single track' operations would be able to cope with through trains. Otherwise, with the differing systems, we end up with shuttle trains and two very crowded stations :D
