Back in 1999 we moved to the Okanagan, which was a new adventure with a lot to discover.

A daily discovery is Kalamalka Lake Provincial Park which abuts our property line to the South. Out the gate and a few short minutes downhill gets us to Jade Beach, very convenient on those hot summer days in the Okanagan.

Just as convenient for our daily dog walks, those lead hither and dither as the mood strikes. Heading out early and keeping to the shade in the Summer, awaiting daylight to see the hazard spots in the Winter since the freeze/thaw cycles are a constant at our elevation (approx. 430m).

“Don’t leave home without it” refers in our case to the digital camera, a small Panasonic TZ-5 which fits in the shirt pocket. The 10x zoom provides the supposed safety when the bears are in the neighbour hood - every year!

Aside from the Park pictures there is a growing selection of other themes - up and down the Valley or a bit farther afield in “More from the West”.

Willkommen auf unseren Photoseiten!

Als wir Anno 1999 ins Okanagan Valley zogen kannten wir die Gegend nur oberflächlich. Paar mal durchgefahren, aber nie so richtig erkundet.

Wir hatten das Glück ein Haus mit Garten, das direkt an den Kalamalka Lake Provincial Park angrenzt, zu kaufen. Zur hinteren Gartentür raus und schon ist man im Park; paar kurze Minuten den Hang runter und man ist am Badestrand.

Auf den täglichen Spaziergängen im Park sieht und erlebt man immer wieder Neues. Die Angewohnheit “wenn man das Haus verlässt ist die Kamera auch mit” zahlt sich selbst bei Regenwetter oder Schneegestöber aus.

Weshalb nun Photoseiten? Über die Jahre hat sich herausgestellt, dass das Interesse an kanadischen Naturbildern ziemlich gross ist (“Da kommen wir leider doch nie hin”). Viele Bilder stammen aus dem Park, aber die weitere Talschaft ist auch vertreten.
